No doubt there will be some opposition to exporting Alaska energy to Asia. OTOH some environmentalists favor the LNG option as a way of blocking our gas from being used to support the Canadian oil sands industry. If the bidding during next year's open season favors the LNG export option, I think there's a reasonable chance that the Congress will allow it. Opponents in Congress might vent their spleens by retracting the federal loan guarantees, but they're not really needed if BP/COP/XOM backs the project.

Ironically the Canucks are finding large amounts of shale gas in the Horn River formation of Northeast BC, and discussing plans to ship that to Asia. Seems more logical to ship that gas next door to the Alberta oil sands, and ship our Alaska gas to Asia instead.
