Basically I reached a point where I started dressing for myself instead of other people.

I only wear suits (and ties) when the occasion requires (rarely).

When I was a kid my father explained to me why he wore a suit to work. He called it his "Buffalo Hide" theory. Back when the Indians hunted buffalo, they would disguise themselves by throwing on buffalo hides. That allowed them to infiltrate the herd. If they didn't have the hide on, the herd would identify them as being different and would become hostile and sometimes attack.

My father always said, when he had to go out in the herd, he'd disguise himself so the herd members would think he was one of them and would not turn on him.

Quite a sensible approach I'd say. Fortunately now, the herd has dressed down. In my universe, suits, and even sport coats and ties, are largely optiona and only required for certain occasions (I wore a sport coat and tie when I foreclosed the mall. LOL).

You are among some of the best minds in the US...Dr Wayne Dyer doesn't and evidently wear a tie...matter of principle for him...He's a great man, and was fun to sit with at a luncheon table several years ago... While I haven't met Bill Gates III, he doesn't seem overly fond of suits either...I've seen him very casual, business casual, and all suited up ready to go.... So see, suits don't matter anymore. The person inside the clothing is who counts....

Just for the heck of it, here are some of Dyer's quotes...

"A non-doer is very often a critic-that is, someone who sits back and watches doers, and then waxes philosophically about how the doers are doing. It's easy to be a critic, but being a doer requires effort, risk, and change."
Wayne Dyer

"You are always a valuable, worthwhile human being, not because anybody says so, not because you're successful, not because you make a lot of money, but because you decide to believe it and for no other reason."
Wayne Dyer

"Circumstances do not make a man, they reveal him."
"There is no way to happiness. Happiness is the way."
Wayne Dyer

"Go for it now. The future is promised to no one."

"Be miserable. Or motivate yourself. Whatever has to be done, it's always your choice."
Wayne Dyer

"Abundance is not something we acquire. It is something we tune into."
Wayne Dyer

"What we think determines what happens to us, so if we want to change our lives, we need to stretch our minds."

"Heaven on Earth is a choice you must make, not a place we must find."
