I certainly don't oppose the medical community using research to determine for itself which treatments work and which ones don't.

I understood that.

Although I am a skeptic when it comes to the ability of the medical community to set appropriate standards, as well. The government would be acting on their recommendations so the standards would be the same either way, either apt or not. The advantage of the community making those determinations is that they don't have the force of law.
