It doesn't make sense. I agree with jrhana that we should power our cars with NG directly. We should use energy in it's most natural state to propel our cars. The more conversion processes it has to go through, the more energy we waste in the process.

I could ask the same thing about gasoline. Why spend all that time and energy to create gasoline when we could be using NG or electricity from sun, hydro, nuclear, or wind to propel our cars? Gasoline makes no sense from an energy efficiency perspective.
