Studies seem all over the place.

For primary prevention? The value of statins seems to vary depending on whether you have coronary artery disease or not. The efficacy for those with active disease is not being challenged.

What is being addressed here is the widespread use for those without heart disease. I've been taking statins for probably 20 years even though I have nothing but a collection of risk factors to justify them. Now there is a movement out there to "put statins in the drinking water" given the panacea that's perceived. But I'm pretty sure there's nothing out there that effectively demonstrates that to be effective let alone cost effective.

but this is probably like an amateur

I have had first hand interactions with three doctors who didn't know the difference between a coronary angiography and a heart scan as well as at least a dozen doctors so demonstrating in articles and videos. You find reporters all the time who don't know the difference.

It's common for reporters to not understand what they're reporting. Unfortunately, it often comes from doctors, too.

I suppose this is at least one reason we need physicians.

Yes, sir. There are no secrets in medicine - everything is open and published. The hard part is to keep facts in context, to place them in correct perspective. This takes a lot of study, training and experience.

I could read up on any area of the law, and get to know plenty about that specific area. Would that make me a Lawyer? Would you want me to represent you in court? I doubt it... :)
