That mix is not all that rare in his kinds of academic levels. At least in my experience.

Reminds me of some top-tier pro athletes who are a bit deficient in the getting-along-with-others department as a byproduct of their talent and success. Not to mention that they all enjoy the attention it engenders, whatever their chosen profession.
