Why don't you apply this question to the black community?

Does religiosity cause people to be less moral, or does rampant immorality cause people to be more religious?

FYI, its the latter. People who see around them the results of immorality, better see the value of religious faith and the virtues it fosters.

The question is why isn't there a split between two communities in liberal areas? Perhaps, its because the devil already has the mass of souls there and there's no struggle to hold them. But in places like inner city ghettos and poor Appalachian counties, the devil and God are fighting for souls. In those places, there's a big difference between the Saturday night people and the Sunday morning people even though they're two communities living side by side one another. In places like San Francisco, they're all the devils property.

Does Mormon religiosity cause Chris, resident of Utah, to be less moral, or does Chris's rampant immorality cause Mormons to be more religious?

Maybe you can try elaborating on that one.

No one likes to be manipulated and controlled by another human being, unless it is a beneficent relationship, like that of a parent to their beloved child. In adult relationships you may find some beneficence like in the mentor and mentee circumstance, although I personally think those are rare except in some short and transitory situations, otherwise it looks more like master and slave to me.

Religions on their own are generally guides to ways of living that is good for the devotees. However, the human beings who inevitably rise to positions of religious authority, and organizations as entities, are tempted by every kind of evil that comes with a desire power and status. Naturally, there are negative reactions when these people or organizations become rapacious in their desire to grow a flock of followers. However, some people who are virtually outside that whole sphere use it as an excuse for there miscreant life choices. In which case, the chicken and egg analogy is inapplicable.

It's kind of a chicken or the egg type of thing. Does religiosity cause people to be less moral, or does rampant immorality cause people to be more religious?

What kills me is that they are the first to get on their high horse and tell the rest of us how bad we are. The supreme leader in Iran is only worse by degree.
