TJ, there is a difference between the Bernie Madoff scam and the US$ scheme. One was deception and fraud, whereas the other is right out there in the open, with M1, 2, 3 published [unless not], and other monetary conditions out there in the open for all to see. Nobody is forced to hold US$ other than a bit for grocery money.

But the one likely to do the most damage is the US$ scheme because it has a monopoly far more worthy of the name than the accusations leveled against Qualcomm, Microsoft, Intel and others but without the redeeming features.

It is the only legal tender, a government enforced scheme, which is not far off a scam. The only monopolies worthy of the name are those run by governments. All others are not really monopolies.

If Microsoft actually had a monopoly on operating system, browser, Office and various other items, they would have a market capitalisation in the multi$trillions. They do not have a monopoly in anything. Neither does Intel. Neither does Qualcomm, though patents are legal monopolies - but unfortunately, Qualcomm sold them too cheap and can't wind the clock back. Anyway, there were other technologies which could do a good enough job so even those legal monopoly patents were not worth as much as I hoped.
