a terrific example of some percent of the population who do not pay for insurance. there were a few sites blogs.. with a dozen more young folks in twenties for example that have bills from college etc and no interest at all in paying for mandatory health insurance.

Their position is the mandatory fee ($70.)doesn't cover a thing other than take money out of their pocket. To get any individual coverage, worth anything, you are looking at paying $500 or so a month.

run away insurance costs , how much is due to demands of state politics that certain new procedures or drugs becovered under health insurance? How much would health insurance drop if you open up the insurance to national competition vs pie in the sky by individual state.

i had an example yesterday shingles vaccine. finally available at health center. dr tells me to go to pharmacy to get insurance approved then come back and nurse will give me vaccine. i go down, the pharma wouldn't take my soc sec card plan b coverage.. nor my extended aetna coverage, they wanted my medco drug coverage card.. then medco says shingles vaccine not covered under my program.. Cost $212. i left without it. then i call my friend who i worked with same coverage as me. he says i was covered for it last year! Medicare paid for it. i look up medicare info on web.. says under plan b it pays for injected drugs.. bingo... now i email dr ask him to have his office manager to check into it.. also send a note of un of penn why? got back a note check with dr... what the hell? customer service says not a technical question. i said find someone who will take responsibility to clear up the mess for others with pharmacy.. is it covered or not?

i just figure this is going to get more confused, delayed payments, etc with federal national insurance.

ps my friend came down with shingles after getting the vaccine. Then he refused to pay for the drug to help medicate the pain the co pay was $150. ggggg

Massachusetts has tried to come up with affordable plans

Not really. Massachusetts, like many states (I think New York may be the worst), pile on requirements for coverage, for maximum size deductibles, etc. that greatly increase the cost of insurance.

I suppose that within that framework state employees will look for affordable solutions for people as part of the states program, but the states requirements are one of the biggest reasons its expensive in the first place.
