"Why is "Climate change" a horrible thing we all should pay higher taxes to support?"

It's not; it's a horrible thing we all should pay taxes to try and forestall or begin to mitigate.

"I could support Obama if he didn't want me to pay for all his silly GW fearmongering notions."

If I thought that was true for even half a second, I'd do everything in my power to get Obama to drop climate as an issue.

I'm trying to figure this out. Obviously you said it wrong- you don't, I hope, think anyone is going to tax you to support climate change. What you, presumably, meant to say is, you don't want the government subsidizing green energy, and you don't like the idea of trying to limit greenhouse gasses.

But please don't make the ridiculous argument that you could support Obama if he only didn't support the idea of trying to do something about climate change. That's just obviously untrue. I'm not sure why you'd even attempt that pretzel posture- do you think it helps bolster your post somehow? It actually makes you seem even less genuine.

Now, as for climate change, since I'm one who thinks the entire solar system is warming, since it is, I am more interested in ameliorating the problematic effects of climate change- and there will be some. Africa, it looks like, will be hit especially hard in terms of crop production by higher temperatures and accompanying droughts. I'm not sure what your republican rose colored glasses can do for me when it comes to Africa, or low lying coastal areas, where huge population areas are going to be threatened by flooding, and water borne disease.

I'm for taxing you (and me) to try to mitigate some of the obvious fall out we will have from the changing climate. I'm not particularly worried about green targets and green energy, because like the space program (which was pretty silly really) the spin offs will be what really matter. Whatever gets people enthused about science, and in to a "race" to find something, accelerates amazing technologies- so put on those cheery little glasses that help you see that half full glass, and wrap your mind around that.

And talk about fearmongering- would you look ar your post?

"When a thief reaches into your wallet and steals money from your family, it may be "change", but not something I support."

I don't support stupid wars in foreign lands for "regime change" and to find WMD's that don't exist- but I understand that if the majority want them I'll be taxed for it anyway, and that's "democracy" which y'all claim to love when it's in Honduras or Iraq, but you don't seem to like very much here in the US of A when it cuts against you. Democracy. It's not always going to be what you want- not in the US, and not elsewhere. Try to remember that. Nothing to do with "thieves" at all.

I think the horribleness of climate change is exaggerated. It should make for some interesting times and in any case if it's not one thing it's the other.

Life as a subsistence hunter/gatherer would be a big improvement over sitting at a desk shuffling paper around.
