There was some talk about it because in the 1960s and 1970s A movie, a book - forced viewing in schools, letters from prominent scientists to government to "do something before it's too late" and the beginnings of a "crazy" idea to release CO2 in massive quantities to combat the "Coming Ice Age". I think that makes Al Gore a plagerist, he simply changed the direction. Generally - end of the world thinking is part of organized religions and appears every generation - this must be the modern version. :-)
