So global al says 20 feet and the ipcc says 1 foot - who's the alarmist with that crap movie the day after. You know the normal rate of ocean rise in 100 years is over 6 inches too - so 6-12 inches is probably within the range of error or natural variability. The oceans have already risen 100's of feet since the last ice age - it never stopped.

I think what confuses people is that Global Climate Change (GCC) is not all up and hotter everywhere at once. Tho' you might wonder how people on SI would fall for this simple minded "gee it's cold today in such-and-such location, so GCC is bogus".

We are seeing the analog of economic volatility (e.g., VIX) in the climate. We will see increasing swings, both high and low on a changing upward baseline. At the terminus, we may find it just sooty, hot and dull world-wide. This might start to drop wind speeds and reduce storms lowering precipitation. It has happened before - the massive sandstones of the west represent a time that we probably wouldn't want to relive.

I just don't get the desire to stick one's head in the sand. We have been massively deforesting for 200 years in the US and 500 years in Europe. Do people really believe that this and other ill-advised environmental behaviors will really have no effect? If I were in a GCC-deniers house and flinging feces, would they say well its only a little bit of feces and a very large house?
