Brumar,
his article was not a scientific article. It was an opinion piece. A true scientific article is one that publishes the results of their own empirical studies and then goes through the peer review process itself. The best that can be said about Carlin's article is that he referenced other articles that were peer reviewed.

I could publish an article with 100% references to peer reviewed articles and conclude that AGW is real and we need to do something about it. That wouldn't make me a scientist or prove anything other than I believe in AGW.

Carlin's paper wasn't a science paper, but an opinion piece.
