duane, the dow jones article was referring to japanese indivdual investors who hold large equity and bond stakes in the US market and not to the central bank or banks in japan. the central bank sells and or buys dollars nearly every day. the volume doesn't appear above normal

<<As for money printing fueled hyper inflation from Debtor nations, the market won't
allow it in any country, including the US>> given the right set of circumstances (world war, linkage of currencies, natural disasters, etc) anything is possible as is it so with deflation

I lived in Mexico during the Dec. 94 develuation. The Mexicans PRI political party increased their money supply by 50 percent and lower their interest rates from the 20 percent to mid teens to win the presidential elections in August of 1994. It was one hell of a party for the Mexicans. They thought they were in the first world.

Then they ran out of reserves. Their reserves were 40 billion at the beginning of 1994 or so they say becuase they did not report it only twice a year. Also, the money suply was not transparant. In fact nothing was.

Well at the same time, they kept an exchange of 3 pesos to 1 US dollar. Money begin to leave the country for many reasons but the two major ones were assisanations of presindential candidates and political leaders.

Well you know the rest of the story, Mr. Ruben, Mr Greenspan, and the IMF chairman loan them $52 bilion. However, not without strings attached. The Mexicans raised interest rates to over 100 percent the money supply was reduced by 33 percent or to the level it was before they started the party. The kicker was that the Mexican federal reserved bank had to report dialy what there money supply and reserves were. And the peso was allow to float.

The banks were lending like it was no tomorrow. Real Estate values were more expensive than New York.

With Mexico it was one country. We have a problem with an entire region in south esat Asia.

Capital does not have a Nationality. My only comfort is that as far as I know our currency is the only currency in the world that says " IN GOD WE TRUST."

I love this country. It is a country of laws and not political leaders.
