My side will see Sarah as raw on experience and right on philosophy of government.

I find that odd. She put a heavy tax on oil producers in AK, and bought popularity by distributing the proceeds to citizens of the state (she used the increased taxes to increase the rebate that the state already gave, and has weakened the states balance sheet in the process). I don't know what that is if it isn't a bit of socialism mixed with welfare and fiscal irresponsibility. What part of her "philosophy of government" do you find yourself in agreement with?

From my perspective the prospect of Biden as president is terrifying. From your perspective the prospect of Sarah as president is terrifying. The major difference is one will not happen and one could.

Well, I'm sure you know that one should never say "Never" in politics. Would anyone have supposed in 2005 that Obama would be elected President in 2008, however powerful his speech was at the convention? Or, for that matter, I would not have bet on Dubya in 1997.

Why does Sarah keep coming back as a topic?

Aside from the fact that she obviously has an adoring following that would like for her to be catapulted onto the national scene, one reason is that it's, well, fun. The same reason you love to point out Biden's gaffes. I find her at once appalling and funny. That said, I haven't noticed the thread really talking about her very much, although I admit I've been busy with other things for the past few weeks and haven't kept up with much of what's been discussed on the thread. As for the two or three articles posted today, they aren't really about her so much as the catfight that erupted among Republicans; she was just a part of the fight.

For some reason it is crucial - absolutely crucial - to destroy Sarah. It is what it is.

"Absolutely crucial" is your interpretation. If she didn't have a rabid following, she wouldn't be followed at all. Certainly not very much. Plenty of people in politics do and say silly things. No reason to look at the governor from AK for that.

It isn't crucial to destroy Sarah. The fact is she's fascinatingly dysfunctional, and she just does weird things. Joe says some odd things, but he's pretty normal. Sarah is not. It's a bit like Michael Jackson- when you read or write about his freakiness it's not because you are jealous, or sexist, or want to destroy him- he was just an entertaining freak. Sometimes that happens. Someone on PFP posted an article about Palin being the Left's Cindy Sheehan- who is also a freak. I don't know if you remember how obsessed the right wingers were with her (actually still ARE obsessed with her.) Do you think it's because they "fear" her, or are "jealous"? No. They just find her a fascinating freak. Well Sarah is the freak from your side. It's pretty simple, that.

Obviously the sincerely partisan won't be able to wrap their minds around that, but I think most people who aren't on the extreme edges get that both parties have strange people in them- people you really don't want on the national stage. FWIW I wouldn't elect Cindy as dog catcher (not Palin either).

>>For some reason it is crucial - absolutely crucial - to destroy Sarah. It is what it is.<<

I watched the Palin story develop locally in Alaska before it went national. The most impassioned fear and loathing toward her always came from within the Republican Party, where her detractors disparaged her as "Gidget" or "the Prom Queen." We have the same thing now nationally, where they call her a "diva" and a "whack job." She has captured the hearts and minds of a large portion of the base, but many establishment Republicans can't stand her. It's fascinating to watch this unfold...

Bearcat;

Our discussions should be on policy. Why does Sarah keep coming back as a topic?

You're kidding right? Or maybe you aren't.

Sarah keeps coming back because she keeps saying and doing things that leaves most of us shaking our heads in disbelief.

For some reason it is crucial - absolutely crucial - to destroy Sarah. It is what it is.

Ahhh, democrats are licking their lips at the thoughts she would run. How many times have you seen ....run Sarah, run, Please - here? And of course all late night comedians are also saying run Sarah ran Please. Why would they ever want to destroy her? Your logic just doesn't make sense to me.

You keep saying it is democrats responsibility for everything now - how about doing the same for Sarah - why not give HER responsibility for her own actions rather than some fruitcake conspiracy that just doesn't make any sense?
