I am a lifelong learner, and I value people who value education. Man has advanced from the stone age to the present by his increasing ability to record and pass down his discoveries- and those people who have no interest in learning, are really showing a disregard for the entire ascent of man. I can't respect that. There is a strain (or should I say a stain) that runs through the tapestry of America- that anti-intellectual, anti-education strand, that thinks "book learning" is somehow suspect. I have never thought that, and always remember that wonderful quote "If I have seen farther than others, it is because I have stood on the shoulders of giants." I value education because I want to stand on the shoulders of giants, and I sure as heck want my politicians to do that. People who can't even make it to the giant's knees can't be expected to appreciate the view from the shoulder :-)
