The big assumption is that there will be cheaper places to do refining than in the US. Maybe so, maybe not. With the whole world moving in this direction, the only cheap places left to do refining will be in underdeveloped countries. They will benefit from the new business and we will bear the cost of higher oil and gas prices, which will accelerate our transition to substitutes. Either way, we win in the long run from moving off oil and gas.

I think what we're seeing is a catch-22 for the oil industry. They are damned if they do and damned if they don't. I love it, because it's good for this country. The sooner we get off the oil, the better for the prosperity of this country.
