Ahh, now we're getting somewhere. This is a decent question.

Thank you for this answer. I guess the term "embedded system" covers a lot of ground. I would think that they would target Windows CE towards something like a "smart cell phone" that would benefit from the GUI part, and offer other services. You certainly know better than me.

One of the examples I saw for Windows CE was an embedded unit in a car. It was a dash-mounted display, which controlled radio, climate, etc. It didn't control engine functions, but was fed this info (through a serial link I assume) so you could get diagnostic info through it. I guess this would be a hybrid application like you suggested.
