OT Should be possible - Verizon offers a similar (cough) value added (cough) service for their GPS enabled phones to track kids.

Is there an app that allows passive GPS determination by friends and family?

I thought iPhone had a built in feature that allowed you to see the location of friends but can't seem to find it in the description of the iPhone. Maybe the Apple feature isn't passive.

It may also require all users to have MobileME. I'll keep looking to see if I can find the documentation on what I thought I remember.
