I'm not a historian. I don't know how I would describe myself anymore since labeling in and of it self has become problematic for what I do. I don't like restrictions. I do like to use a smell test on declarations though.

When there is a broad statement about religion or anti-religion or conservatives or liberals etc, it rarely passes the smell test, so I go hunting for a less smelly way to look at things. The assumption to start with is that we are looking at more illusion, paradox, irony, and down right falsehood, or corruption, than we are looking at the truth in our circumstance. Starting from that assumption I usually find there is some foul odor that can be eliminated. At least that's the way I figure it, while I recognize my way comes across as obnoxious when people are trying to get comfortable with a particular way of looking at things.

btw I wish you didn't ban that Dan guy. He was coming up with some interesting divergent views, which I would have liked to explore.
