I'm not really sure that Ford is making much better cars now. They've been through their fair share of management and marketing screw-ups. Their flagship lines (used to be Taurus, now it's the Five Hundred, but they're busy reviving the Taurus name) have always been plagued with reliability problems. Yet their trucks seem to be top-notch.

Turning customer mind share around takes a long time...ford has been making better cars, not just in the last few months, but for the last few years. The 500 was a fiasco however...the embodiment of dull. Not so for the Mustang(s)...also take a look at the new Fusion...it may not account for a large % of their sales, but their contribution to mind share value is huge. Their ad campaigns are top notch...that's what it takes. Cost is important too...sure.
