Yesterday, when we were on our way to put up the wireless network for the security cameras to monitor the treehugger protesters, we saw a mama bear and her three cubs.

We were probably about 150' away from them and kept our distance (mama with cubs is berry berry dangerous).

In that photo, all of that land is "reclaimed". Meaning that it was strip mined and then put reformed. There are other areas that were mined 10-15 years ago that you can barely tell that it is anything but wild forest.

While I was at the mine, I saw hawks, bears, coyotes, turkeys and fox...not to mention lots of squirrels. Here's my question, why do these wild animals choose to live and hunt and raise their young in the areas that were once mined and have now been reclaimed?
