"Understood" as seeing how American policy through all of the 20th century aimed at destabilizing Latin American governments, usually in the interests of companies such as United Fruit Company?

And you mention Cuba. Why did Cuba have a revolution? Because organized crime provided such great employment benefits at the Havana clubs or because our dictator was such a great guy?

My brother went to Costa Rica and in their museum they have a letter of apology from the US government behind glass in a case documenting (and acknowledging) the wrongful overthrow of their government. A democratic government that was founded before ours. It is one of their most treasured relics.

Banana Republics. I think we know all about that and when they want our help, we should give it. The US policy has been to overthrow popular governments in LA for most of the past 100 years.

We have no basis for choosing governments in LA anymore. We had a revolution to establish rights in this country. Do others have less right to make their own determination?

We should promote a policy of stabilization though.
