The people who seek out those jobs love the challenge and the process; they thrive on it. There are also thousands of people involved in focusing on all those different issues and treaties and positions and such, the endless roster of staff munchkins supporting the principals.

One reason I stayed overseas all my career was I never wanted to be one of those munchkins back in HQ. Not my style. That's why I left and built my own successful business.

Thinking back on the zillion briefings and staff meetings I ever sat through, the principal always looked like they loved it. It's Type-A-personality nirvana. Personally, I much prefer running my own show with no staff to keep steered in the right direction. "Management power" doesn't rock my world at all.
