Not comparing at all, simply suggesting that Buchanan was on the fringe, incapable of building a coalition that would include the center. A fire brand who turned off a lot of conservatives. You might recall that he gave a hellfire and brimstone speech at a GOP convention that turned off a lot of voters. These obvious flaws did not keep him from running.

For different reasons, Palin is in pretty much the same position, though no one would accuse Buchanan of lacking intellectual horsepower. This is a weakness Palin really cannot cure.

The 2012 campaign is shaping up as a very interesting one. Sanford's out, Ensign is out, who's going to let his libido ruin his career next?

I hope Newt runs. His libido problem is long forgotten.
