Besides personal reasons, I think she did it for the reasons she gave. After the corruption of her predecessor, she set up a transparent system where citizens could freely file an ethics complaint against the Governor. Because Democrats fear her running for President more than any other candidate against the anointed one, they're abusing the system and filing numerous frivolous ethics violation charges, which are costing the Alaskan taxpayers a lot of money. It bothers her, she believes it's a huge waste of taxpayer resources - better to step aside and save Alaskans millions of dollars defending the politics of personal destruction hitting her from the Democrats. No doubt, these attacks are being orchestrated by Team Obama using surrogates in Alaska to do their dirty work. It's a Chicago political srategy to destroy your enemy no matter what. In my opinion, it goes to show how afraid they are of her connection with the American people. While slow-Joe Biden can barely attract enough attention for 100 people show up at his event, Governor Palin she can still fill stadiums. The connection is real, it may not be understandable to high-minded socialist ideologues who see her has unsophisticated, but it's real and insider Democrats like Rahm Emanuel know it.
