He was asking for a non-binding vote, meaning nothing more than a poll of opinion on whether the constitution should be rewrit. we have such a vote all the time all the time in Alabama, as our constitution is an utter mess that holds us back.

and gracious... their constitution right now allows one 4 year term. our original one set no limit.

and it is admitted that his removal was against the law.

the words 'hugo chavez ally' says it all, that is all it takes for some to want him out, and some in America to not look at any facts, afterall... Hugo is our 'ememy'. silliness.

you don't take a President at gunpoint and dump him in his pjs on an airstrip in another country because he was calling for non-binding vote of the people. all the people had to do was vote it down if they wished, as people in Venuzula voted down letting Hugo stay in office till forever.

Perhaps we had it right way back when we set no limits. FDR was voted in 4 times, not by any ballot stuffing or nefarious means... but because the people wanted him. If he hadn't died, he might have made it 5. And at that time in our history, perhaps it was not a bad thing to have the continuity that brought. In general, get in and get out in 8 years. I'd think a person would like to go off and fish after 8 years, but then I am easily taxed. But if votes are honest and fair, if the people wish to keep the same person, why not?

And whosit in Hondurus has a low rating right now. even if the constitution were changed to allow 2 terms, it is not certain he would be re-elected. and as it is rather clear he does not have the military behind him, not like he could pull a coup, one was pulled against him. so what is the worry? the constitution perhaps needs some rewriting. happens when they are writ by the powers that be that don't really want to give up power, as was the case in Honduras.
