Our slaves invented Samba, transformed into Bossa Nova by the whites. The negro is weak in Africa due to poor nourishment. But once they moved to the new world, were given good food their performance is much better than we whites.

That also allows their music to be enhanced and show their artistic potential.

If slavery did not happen we would not have the negro projection we have had in the last 50 years.

One place jazz was exported to is Germany. Last night I went to what they say is the oldest jazz club in Europe, the Jazz Keller, founded in Frankfurt in 1951. Most of Frankfurt's centuries-old cellars were filled up with rubble after WW2, this one remained usable. I heard a quintet fronted by a woman singer who also plays trumpet and flugelhorn - really good jazz standards, no lack of swing. This is world music.
