When I first moved south in '92 one of my 'welcome home' ditties was an advertisement for a guy running for rep from our district as a repub. it was an attack ad against his dem opponent.

It was two bubbas sitting in a cafe being served by a buxom waitress and they were discussing how the dem consorted with ho-mo-sex-u-als. I dash it out cause that's how they said it. it was rolling on the floor laughing funny, but not funny in that it worked very well, and they knew it would. it did lose the repub my parents votes then and still, but two votes don't add to what he gained. and it wasn't funny realizing that tho it is 'evil' to consort with homosexuals, it seemed to me that it was okay to say that openly, whereas to say "the guy hangs out with black people" was not by that time... so the homo thing was partly a stand-in... afterall if you'll hang with homos, you'll hang with blacks.

really ugly stuff. and it was the start of calling dems evil and on their way to hell. lots of that talk, which still goes on. many a preacher here is open in telling their people that if they vote for a dem, it's a sin. a real real bad sin.

Re: "The 1964 civil rights act was supported by liberals and opposed by conservatives. I have posted the vote below."

I apologize if I implied more Republicans voted for the act than Democrats, IN RAW NUMBERS. That's not true only because of the Minority status of Republicans. Now perhaps you will apologize for the above, for when you state that the act was "supported by liberals and opposed by conservatives" you plainly ignore the fact, shown in the numbers you posted, (I shout so you notice) 80%, 82%, AND 80% OF REPUBLICANS SUPPORTED IT, TO JUST 61%, 69%, AND 63% OF DEMOCRATS.

Oh, but you feel southern democrats are actually conservatives, and it's about liberals vs conservatives, not Democrats vs Republicans. Odd then, that when looking at the numbers you provided for only NORTHERN Democrats and Republicans, WHILE DEMOCRAT SUPPORT EDGED REPUBLICAN SUPPORT, STILL THE ACT GOT 84-85% SUPPORT FROM REPUBLICANS.

Just please BE HONEST AND ACCEPT THAT REPUBLICANS OBVIOUSLY OVERWHELMINGLY SUPPORTED THIS ACT (and some members of both parties were against it indeed, of course).
