Same goes for the self-employed who are feeling the effects.
No bailout if you're not part of the statistics.
We used to eat out at least 3x's a week, but hardly eat out anymore and certainly not spending $35 on a pancake breakfast at IHOP. So maybe I'm biased. But if everyone's doing less biz, the chain gets rattled down the line.

We just got back from a trip to the Jersey shore. Spent carefully. Hearing business is bad there. Media blames the rain, but it's more than that. The boardwalk wasn't crowded when we were there and the weather was great.

One of the most stark differences were the ride operators who now speak English again. Many middle aged persons as well. In years prior, they were flying in students from eastern Europe to take the jobs that couldn't be filled with locals

There's a large portion of underemployed and self-employed taking a huge income hit and subsequent spending hit, but not being accounted for in all the data.
