Apple's Jobs not to remain CEO -Pixar CFO

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct 28 (Reuters) - Apple Computer Inc's interim chief executive Steve Jobs is not interested in taking the job on a permanent basis, said
Lawrence Levy, the chief financial officer of PIXAR Animation Studios Inc (PIXR).

Jobs, who is also chairman and chief executive of Pixar, told analysts on a conference call Monday discussing Pixar's third quarter results that he is not interested in
being Apple's permanent CEO and Apple continues to look for a CEO.

''He was honest about it,'' Levy said. ''He said nothing has changed, and he is the interim CEO of Apple and they will put in a new CEO by the end of the year.''

An Apple spokeswoman was not immediately available, but late Monday she said Apple planned no announcements, it continues to look for a CEO and Jobs
remains interim CEO.

Jobs, who was asked at an industry conference earlier this month when he was going to drop the ''interim'' from his title, said he would think about it while on a
vacation to Hawaii.

Late last week, analysts said they were expecting Jobs would make a decision upon his return early this week.

''He was sending a clear message that he is not interested,'' said one analyst who heard the Pixar call. ''He expects to be back at Pixar full time by early next year.''

Some analysts had been expecting that Jobs would decide to take the job, especially after two of the rumored candidates for CEO took other jobs. Last Friday,
David Dorman, of SBC Communications Inc, was named to be the CEO of PointCast Inc.

Two weeks ago, Joe Costello, the CEO of Cadence Design Systems Inc (CDN), said he was leaving to head up Michael Milken's educational services firm,
Knowledge Universe.

''I think it is more positive that he is not (becoming CEO),'' said Lou Mazzucchelli, an analyst at Gerard Klauer & Mattison. ''I think it's appropriate that he find
another role. They could make him vice chairman. He is still a director.''

In September, Jobs was named as interim CEO, after a major shakeup of its board of directors in August. Jobs was named to Apple's board, along with three new
executives.

Apple has been searching for a CEO since July, when Gil Amelio was ousted by its board, after a series of financial losses and continued loss of market share.
