If there's a failure, it's the writer's, not mine.

But it's not a failure.

Your logic is that a car's performance can only be discussed in its totality. Discussing a flat tire (for instance) has no value. Or a blown piston, or a dead battery. Irrelevant, say you.

Wrong. A flat tire and how to fix it is quite relevant to the car's overall performance. Any faulty component is worthy of discussion.

It has been left to the reader to assess global implications, without being lead by the hand. Most people understand that, in the same way they understand a burned-out tail light is not critical to overall performance, while an empty gas tank is.
