The stimulus bill didn't work because taking from the rich and giving to the poor doesn’t much help the economy. In the past, some of the government spending which helped the economy are.

1. Building the intercontinental railroad connecting the east and west United States.
2. Building electrical power transmission and hydroelectric dams in rural America.
3. The space race.

I am sure there are many other, possibly better examples, but these are enough to make my point.

The order is not just from the oldest to the more recent, but also from the most effective to the least. The reason why they helped the economy is as follows.

1. The railroad companies were not willing to spend large dollars on the then low passenger and freight service required. But the railroads existence helped speed up development of the West.

2. Similarly the power companies were not willing to spend the thousands of miles of power lines and dams required to server rural areas, but their existence helped farms and grow, and often small towns grew to large cities in part because they received electrical power earlier than power companies would have offered the service.

3. Space race helped start the existing commercial satellite and earth orbit launches which are now mostly paid by private industry.

if unemployment crosses 10%, obama will start to have real problems. Since i think it will cross 10%, they better not appear flummoxxed when this happens.

They have told us from the get go its not a V bottom.......a quick recovery ain't in the cards. Anyone who thinks otherwise wasn't listening. We barely skirted a depression.

Stimulus didnt work quickly enough and that might just be because obama let nancy get porked rather that demand real shovel ready stuff.

That's silliness......the stimulus was just that stimulus....it was never intended to singlehandedly turn around the economy. If you want to know how we will recover, check out LA's economy in the early 90s. It was a slow recovery...that picked up speed once the quake stimulus was in place.

Whether true or enough that will begin to resonate. Congress approval ratings as low as repubs and because folks like obama doesnt mean they will blindly follow. Already we here tax talk from working folks who obama says will be getting tax cut. Well they are not and they are getting stiff tax increases at state level that offset any early year fed cuts.

Dems still have much better ratings than Rs. Obama has the best ratings. They know the dude isn't screwing around......he's working his butt off.

Do tell us when the "real problems" begin, we have arrived.

And you voted for it, congratulations.
