Thats your perspective from WA state. But there are greens in the SW who will (and are suing) sue to protect desert rats and cave fish and all sorts of things. You talk about killer whales (which live all over the world and aren't endangered - maybe some pods here or there but not overall) while everywhere you go there is something.
