It can be used as an excuse to attack what you don't like. However, in my version of planned obsolescence you forecast what the future might look like and then you invest in promising new areas, while milking the cash cows you have. Oil is a cash cow, so let's remove subsidies there and move them over to renewable energy, which is the promising new industry. It's just smart business planning.

Cash cows should be milked and rising stars should be invested in.
