"Liberty and Tyranny" is the very best amateur's guide to the doctrines, and the history of the concepts that shaped and formed our nation I've ever read.

Levin is an incredibly talented individual.

The author of the article did note that Levin started his book before Obama had any traction.

But his book is not an anti-Obama screed, Levin says. He began writing it in the summer of 2007, before Obama was the leading Democratic contender for president. He finished it after the election and added several sections specifically on Obama. Levin said his book is an attempt to lay down the basic philosophical tenets of conservatism at a time when he feels they may be under attack. “I’ve had this book in my head for years,” Levin said. “It’s just that Obama so perfectly illustrates the statist that I write about. I guess it’s more his timing than my timing that has drawn attention to the book.”

Actually, this phenomenon is anything but. Anti-Bush screeds were a cottage industry after 2002.
