Milton Friedman's and Anna Schwartz's concept of "quantitative easing" does not work. Elroy then whose concept is correct??. I find your analysis interesting. In survey after survey most Europeans were not as worried re the "recession" because as one Swede I saw interviewed said: I have free education so I don't have to worry about my kid's schooling. I have free medical so I don't have to worry about such costs and I also have get assistance from the state if I need to eat. Germany for example also has good gov assistance. France is also quite big this way. It is hard to lay off people in Europe. It seems to me Elroy when you mention Europe in your missive, you want to have your cake and eat it too.
