Back then it was as good as gold. Our inflation was, perhaps,
3-4% lower each year because we exported it, which, in turn,
allowed us to keep interest rates extremely low and
induce all these bubbles. We also introduced various
statistical improvements, so inflation got even lower.
Few folks noticed the statistical improvement, thou - they were
forced to speculate on stocks and housing because their real
incomes fell like a hard rock, year over year, until they
were unable to pay for stuff.

This comes to a lot over 20-some years, and that was before
the Fed tripled narrow money.

The U.S. Dollar became a reserve currency at the end of WW-II.

But at that time the US was also the world's money lender..now it is the worlds money spender...
