From the ol' Southwest comes the story of Compaq and Dell embroiled in an old-fashioned Texas shoot-out for a huge contract with GM. According to a Dell insider, the Round Rockians had the inside track
among GM's IS buyers, but the decision got kicked upstairs to the board of directors, which promptly reversed the decision and gave the contract to Compaq. That left the disappointed Dellsters wondering if a GM board member named Eckhard Pfeiffer had any input on the decision.
