>>What do they think they're gonna do if they get her on the stand - force her to admit Trig is Bristol's baby or something?<<

Speaking generally, it's a bad idea for any politician of any persuasion to testify under oath. Their brains are entirely geared toward "being flexible" with the truth, so there is a great danger of saying something untrue that will come back to haunt them. That's how Bill Clinton got impeached.

The ankle biters going after Sarah and Todd are pursuing many angles. Much of it is probably just rumor, conjecture, conspiracy theory, and wishful thinking, but there's a danger that the ongoing fishing expeditions will turn up something serious. Why should Sarah and Todd expose themselves to further risks?

Sarah's ex-friend Andrée McLeod has already won one lawsuit against the Palin Administration, resulting in a judge's order that records of state business conducted via private email accounts must be preserved as state documents. The Palin team seems to have naively assumed that they could cover their tracks by moving communications off the state email system. What do you suppose they were trying to hide? Lots of people want to know.

Andrée McLeod stumbled on something very interesting while fishing around: Todd Palin was in the high echelon email loop. McLeod has a pending lawsuit demanding that all emails cc'd to Todd be regarded as open public records. The Palin Administration claims privileged status for these emails because Todd was a "trusted adviser", but McLeod says that can't be true because Todd wasn't on the state payroll. The ankle biters claim that Todd was really the "shadow governor", and they hope to prove it by getting access to these emails.

If they can get Sarah on the witness stand, they'll work every possible angle to pry out more information. One thing can lead to another, and sooner or later they might hit the jackpot. Now that Sarah has decided to quit, I think she should disengage from this crap as fast as possible. IMO she should be very cautious about filing lawsuits against her detractors.
