The point I was trying to make (badly) was, in the present environment, making a auto buying decision is an exercise in risk management. With peak oil and the current geopolitical situation, we really have no idea of the cost of gasoline in the next six months, much less in the next six years. If gasoline were to spike in price you could very well find yourself with a huge weekly gasoline bill (which could effect lifestyle decisions) and an auto that has almost no resale value.

I'm getting the itch to buy a new car, within the next year, and these things are going through my mind.... maybe I'm unique, maybe not.
