Why aren't you demanding that our car companies build cars that last for 20 years, since you are demanding that EV car battery makers do the same?

I think they are.. My father had a 1984 Silverado that netted him over 250,000 miles and the only maintenance problem he ever had was a carburetor problem. The only other costs were normal oil and engine belt changes.

There should be no reason for today's vehicle not to get at least 100-150K miles. And I think people expect their vehicles to be servicable for that long.

But the latest Li-Ion technology, which is supposed to be sold commercially next year (Chevy Volt) has little expectation of meeting those requirements.

Again.. getting 180,000 miles on a Li-Ion battery is remarkable. But that's over 2 years of testing, not 7-10 years.
