What makes you think that individuals can drive harder bargains than corporate benefits administrators?

It's classic. "Corporate benefits administrators" are not end users and don't get the true 'benefits' part... only the combined wisdom of millions and millions of consumers can make that judgement... and decide if $1 worth of cost is really worth $1 of supposed benefit. Some of the greatest marketing companies in the world come out with 'can't miss' product that fail miserably... the end user consumer is the judge/jury/executioner. "Corporate benefits administrators" know nothing... unless the end user hand reaches for his wallet it's not a free market or capitalism.

Seriously, ask the libertarians. Employer paid medical insurance is a subsidy perversion of the free market. And that's anything but liberal dogma.
