ABAXIS Names Frank Maguire New Vice President of Operations SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 12, 1997--ABAXIS Inc. (Nasdaq:ABAX - news), a medical products company manufacturing point-of-care blood analysis systems, Wednesday announced appointment of Frank Maguire as vice president of operations. Maguire comes to ABAXIS with more than 20 years of broad-based experience in guiding large-scale domestic and international manufacturing operations, most recently as vice president, manufacturing for Bard Access Systems, a division of C.R. Bard. There he built an operations base for the high-growth oncology products market. He developed overall strategy and directed manufacturing operations at facilities in Salt Lake City, San Antonio and Toronto. Prior to joining Bard Access Systems, Maguire was director of manufacturing with MDT Diagnostic Co. based in Charleston, S.C., where he successfully managed large-scale machining and assembly plants producing capital equipment and high-volume sterile disposables. Prior to MDT Diagnostic, Maguire was director of manufacturing with Symbion Inc. of Salt Lake City, where he developed the manufacturing processes to produce cardiovascular life support and ENT (cochlear implant) products. Founded in 1989, ABAXIS develops, manufactures and markets portable blood analysis systems for use in any patient care setting to provide clinicians with rapid blood constituent measurements. The system consists of a compact, 6.9-kilogram, portable analyzer and a series of 8cm-diameter single-use plastic disks, called reagent discs, that contain all the reagents necessary to perform a fixed menu of tests. The system can be operated with minimal training and perform multiple routine tests on whole blood using either venous or fingerstick samples. The system provides test results in less than 15 minutes with the precision and accuracy equivalent to a clinical laboratory.
