Obama held elective office at state and federal levels for 12 years before becoming president; not as deep as some presidents but just as "shallow" as several others who come to mind. It clearly trumps a couple of years as a fringe state governor and a tiny town mayor. We had long discussions here about the correlation between prior experience and successful presidencies. When you go back president by president and score each one, the correlation is pretty weak.

I think pretty much anyone has more experience than Sarah. I have never lived in a county that had fewer residents than the entire state of Alaska.

Yes your statement is true re experience. Unfortunately we elected a president that is similarly inexperienced. The experienced ones were Biden and McCain. Somehow experience alone is not the leading qualification for voters. You need to have either experience or at least inspire confidence in people that you have some level of competence. Obama didnt have the experience but people were convinced of his competence and intelligence. Palin was inexperienced and also seemed utterly overwhelmed on the national stage. She now has given up on getting any more experience so she had better work on being able to convince people that she is more than a pretty face wrapped up in a bunch of boiler plate right wing messages....or at least she needs to do that if she wants to move beyond her base and actually have an impact on the national scene.
