it's not the politicians, it's their constituency.

It's a chicken and egg situation. American individualism is no longer as robust as it once used to be. We allow our politicians to have too much power -- and power corrupts. In turn, they bribe and corrupt us in many different ways. By now, instead of public servants we have a class of political bosses.

Imagine the reelection prospects of a politicians that says "I'm going to take away your employer paid health 'benefit'".

Precisely the reason government should never be placed in a position where it can make such a threat.
