<Hi All: I've been following a SI thread called "From the Trading Desk" run by Steve Goldman, the head trader at a small discount brokerage firm in NJ. It's a fantastic thread - my absolute favorite (except this one!). Anyway, I posted to Steve about my troubles with Schwab and here's his reply. I'm moving all of my accounts over there in the next week or two.>

Trufflette, Any background info. on them? Commissions and such...

i'd agree with steve Trufflette. we did all our trades at the price asked with no wait time - we too are a "small" brokerage house owned by a much bigger well-known name house, but sometimes fulltime brokers are worth their commission weight, especially on days like today. we choose our clients though. good luck to you. just make sure that when you place a trade with a small firm that you stay on the phone line with them until they confirm the order - otherwise if they have ten trades to punch, they may punch yours at the end

RE: "From the Trading Desk" Steve Goldman / Yamner.

Trufflette,

I followed Steve's thread in the past. You're right--it's great! I stopped following it a couple months ago when it seemed like he was getting overrun with "what do you think of this stock?" questions (which he wisely refuses to answer). I should check it out again. His thread is quite an educational tool on how the market works, daytrading, etc. Especially interesting are the Screencam's of the Nasdaq Level II system. I wonder if he captured some stuff in the last couple days?

Although his commissions are more of a traditional schedule (but fairly discounted), I think that the service and improved executions could be worth the price. If I were to go to a non-discount broker, he would be my selection. (I'm quite happy with Datek's $9.99 commissions and executions right now, though.)

Good luck!
