There are places in Western Washington near Seattle that get less rain than Death Valley, CA and actually have cactus. (Hint: Rain shadow of the Olympic mountains)

Eastern Washington and Eastern Oregon are prime spots for solar. There are many places in the lee of the Rocky mountains that are prime also. There are many other areas that are "prime" for large solar arrays.

When you add up the square miles it's in the multiple millions.

And I have not even mentioned the desert SW.
