There are far fewer toll roads here in CA than there are in the east coast. I remember every time I drove between D.C. and NYC, I would have to pass through ten toll booths. Literally.

I actually think it is a great way of funding highway development. I can remember the day the DFW Turnpike was paid off -- there was a bit of celebration as the toll booths came down. Much like a mortgage burning.

Of course, that was before TollTags and when tolls were at most a quarter. These days, it turns into real money.
