It's self-serving. He needs the markets to come back, by any means whatsoever. He's not concerned about the impact on future generations.

It's interesting that Obama came out against a second stimulus, despite the calls of so many of his supporters for it. My guess is that he is committed to passing health care reform and does not want any other bill that might derail it. He is finding the limits of how many items he can throw at the wall at one time.

In such choices do we see his real priorities.

Politically, I think it is very risky for President Obama. If the economy does not recover (not that it's likely to anytime soon), people may be angry if they think he's not paying enough attention to it. And now he's put all his chips on health care reform. If it fails to pass, then where is he?

The GOP is realizing this too, which adds a huge political motivation to their already great philosophical motivation to stop health care reform.
